Is Mangra free?

Yes. You get 10 on-device translations every day for free, with no account required, and credits reset at midnight, local time. Pro unlocks unlimited translations, cloud AI models, and every advanced feature.

How is Mangra different from Google Translate or Google Lens?

General-purpose translators struggle with comic lettering: vertical Japanese, stylised fonts and sound effects trip them up. Mangra's recognition is tuned for exactly that, and rather than dropping the result into a separate box it lays the translation back into each speech balloon so the page still reads as a page. It also hooks into the share sheet and Shortcuts, so you can translate without leaving whatever you're reading in.

Which devices does Mangra work on?

Mangra runs on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Your subscription works across all your Apple devices signed in with the same Apple ID.

Does it work offline?

Yes. The free on-device mode translates fully offline using Apple's translation engine, so your pages never leave your device. Cloud AI mode (Pro) needs a connection for the most accurate results.

Which languages are supported?

Cloud AI translates into 55+ languages (20 in offline mode), from source languages like Japanese, Korean and Chinese. On top of that, Mangra's own interface is fully localized into 37 languages. You'll find the complete lists in the Languages section above.

Is my manga private? Do you upload my images?

No, your images are never uploaded. Offline mode does everything on the device itself. When you pick a cloud AI model, the bubble detection and text recognition still run locally, and only the recognised words travel to be translated, so the page images stay on your device. Nothing you read or provide is used to train any model.

Will every bubble show the same translation, or freeze mid-page?

That won't happen here. Each balloon is read and translated on its own, so a single line never gets copied across the page. A chapter runs as a batched job with a progress pill you can watch, and any page that doesn't come through keeps its original art, so you just tap to retry it instead of losing the panel.

What can I import?

Open .zip, .rar, .cbz, .cbr and .pdf files, import pages from your Photos library, use the built-in browser, or read directly from online sources via extensions.

Which AI model is best?

You get five to choose from. The Default (Gemini) is fast and balanced and works great for most series. OpenAI (GPT) leans toward the highest accuracy on tricky scenes, DeepSeek and Grok are strong all-rounders worth trying when a series doesn't read quite right, and Qwen is the best pick for Chinese. You can switch between them anytime in settings, so it's easy to find the one that fits a title.

Can I fix a bad translation?

Absolutely. Edit Mode lets you move, resize and restyle any bubble, retype text, change fonts, and mask stray lettering with the brush tool.

Does it work with manhwa, manhua and webtoons?

Yes. There's a dedicated OCR mode for vertical Asian text, webtoon scroll reading, and RTL/LTR support, plus a Comic mode for Western comics.

Does it work with any manga I have?

If you can open it, Mangra can translate it: a photo you took, a scan, a PDF you bought, a screenshot, or a page loaded in the in-app browser. Mangra doesn't provide or point you to any particular source; what you read, and where you get it, is entirely up to you.

Does it work with my existing extensions?

Yes. The extensions system is compatible with sources from Mihon, Tachiyomi, Tachimanga and Paperback, so you can bring the libraries you already use.

Can I translate outside the app?

Yes. The system-wide shortcut lets you Extract & Translate from Safari, Photos, or any app. No need to open Mangra first.
