Mangra Help Page

Welcome to Mangra, your go-to manga, manhwa, and comic reader and translation app for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. This guide covers every feature, from importing files to batch-translating entire series.

1. Supported File Formats

Mangra supports:

  • ZIP, RAR, CBZ, CBR — the four supported archive formats. Inside the archive, the images can be arranged in any way: loose in the root, inside a single folder, or split across deeply nested subfolders. The app flattens everything for you.
  • Images — JPG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC imported directly from Photos.
  • PDF — import and read, no preparation needed.

How Archives Are Imported

No matter how the images are organized inside your ZIP / RAR / CBZ / CBR, the app will find every image, flatten any folders and subfolders, and rename all pages sequentially from 001 to the last image so you get one clean, continuous reading sequence.

Two Ways to Organize Files Before Importing:

1. All Images in One Folder (Single Chapter)

Place all images directly in one folder and compress it.

Correct format:

Your Manga Folder
├── 01.jpg
├── 02.jpg
├── 03.jpg
└── ...

2. Multiple Chapters in Separate Folders

Create a subfolder per chapter inside the main folder, then compress the main folder.

Correct format:

Your Manga Folder
├── Chapter 1
│ ├── 01.jpg
│ └── …
├── Chapter 2
│ ├── 01.jpg
│ └── …
└── …

2. Importing Files

There are several ways to bring manga into the app:

  • Plus button inside the app — browse files or pick from your Photo Library.
  • Files — open the archive from Files.
  • Built-in Browser — open any manga website inside the app and save pages directly (Pro).
  • Shortcuts — automate imports or overlay-translate screenshots with Apple Shortcuts (Pro).

3. Library & Collections

Keep your library organized:

  • Rename any manga to a name you prefer — long-press or use the context menu to rename.
  • Delete any manga/collection — long-press or use the context menu to delete.
  • Collections — create custom groups to sort manga by series, genre, status, or anything you want.
  • Move between collections — pick a manga and move it into any collection, or return it to the Home page at any time.

4. Save Progress

Your reading position is saved automatically when you:

  • Return to the Home Page.
  • Switch apps or send the app to the background.
  • Close the app.

5. Reader Modes

The reader adapts to any kind of comic:

  • Page Mode — ideal for Japanese manga and Western comics. Single page, double page, and right-to-left (RTL) layouts are all supported.
  • Scroll Mode — continuous vertical scrolling, perfect for Korean manhwa and Chinese manhua webtoons.
  • Edit Mode — before translating, tap Edit to make it active then tap Translate button to fine-tune the result: move and resize translated text boxes, rewrite the translated text, redraw bubbles with the brush tool, or reposition anything that didn’t land perfectly.
  • Gestures — tap the center of the page for the menu, pinch to zoom.
  • Oringal/Translate – toggle eye icon to switch between original and translated pages

6. Translation Feature

Translate manga, manhwa, and comics between dozens of languages.

  • Step 1: Pick your source language (the language of the manga) and target language (your language).
  • Step 2: Tap the Translate button  to translate the current page, or use Auto-Translate to translate the entire series (see section 10).

Translation Modes

  • Local (Apple Translate, on-device) — fast, works offline, supports 20 languages.
  • AI Cloud Translation (Pro) — more accurate, context-aware, supports 57 languages. Requires an internet connection. Choose between models such as Default , GPT, DeepSeek, Grok, Gemini, and Qwen.

OCR Engines & Japanese Processing

OCR Mode:

  • Mangra OCR — For all type of comics (Manga, Manhwa, Comic) work with both horizontal and vertical text.

Note: Live Text must be enabled in iOS Settings → General → Language & Region → Live Text, and the app must be restarted after enabling it.

  • Comic OCR — Better for Comic only not suppourt vertical text.
  • Japanese Processor :
  • Accurate — post-processes detected Japanese text to automatically remove furigana (small phonetic characters above or beside kanji) and clean up common recognition errors before translation. Highly recommended for Japanese manga.
  • Default — work with all suppourted source languages (20 languages)

Text Display Options (Settings → Text Display)

  • Font picker — choose the font used for translated text. The picker lists every font installed on your device, so you are not limited to the defaults.
  • Installing custom fonts — to use a font that isn’t already on your device, install it system-wide first using a free font installer from the App Store such as iFont or AnyFont. Once the font profile is installed in iOS Settings, the font will automatically appear in Mangra font picker.
  • Remove Original Text (Pro) — AI inpainting erases the original text from the page before the translation is drawn on top. You get a clean, bubble-free background that looks like the page was translated by hand. Recommended when the original text is distracting or when translating into languages that take up much more space.
  • AI Enhance Image (Pro) — 2× upscale using an AI super-resolution model. Low-resolution scans become sharper and more readable; line art and small text stay crisp when you zoom in.

Finding Translated Images

Translated pages are saved in a Translated subfolder for each manga: Mangra → Index → [Your Manga] → Translated. This is true whether your storage is set to On My iPhone or iCloud Drive.

7. Browser & Smart Translate (Pro)

The built-in browser lets you read and translate manga directly from websites without importing anything.

  • Scroll Mode in Browser — browse and read websites in a clean continuous scroll view.
  • Smart Translate Feature — automatically find the image in the page and translate it. On supported websites, this is up to 3× faster in scroll mode.
  • Popup & Redirect Blocking — blocks intrusive popups and unwanted redirects common on manga sites.
  • Tab history & Bookmarks — keep favorite sites handy.

How to Tell if Smart Translate Supports a Website

Watch the status indicator while translating:

  • If you see only “Translating…” — the website is fully supported. Smart Translate is running at maximum speed.
  • If you see “Scanning…” followed by “Translating…” — Smart Translate is not available for this website. Translation still works, but it will be slower because the app has to scan the page before translating it.

8. Extensions (Pro)

Mangra supports komga self-hosted and paperback extensions

Install, enable, disable in Settings → Extensions.

9. Edit Mode

Automatic translation is fast but never perfect. Edit Mode gives you full control over any translated page:

  • Move & resize any translated text box.
  • Rewrite the translated text if you prefer a different wording.
  • Brush tool to manually clean up or redraw a speech bubble.
  • Reposition text that didn’t land inside the bubble the first time.

Your edits are saved automatically and become part of the translated page.

10. Auto-Translate

Translate an entire series at once:

  • Tap Auto-Translate to process every page in the background.

11. Shortcuts (Pro)

Mangra integrates with the Apple Shortcuts app:

  • Overlay Translate — translate any screenshot in place.
  • Image Translate — send any image via the Share Sheet and get translated copies back.

See Settings → Shortcuts for setup instructions.

12. Document Directory Management

Choose where to store your manga files:

  • Local Document (On My iPhone) — fastest access, files stored on-device.
  • iCloud Drive — syncs across your devices. Pages may download on demand, which can cause brief lag.

Tip: Enhance Performance on iCloud Drive

  1. Open the Files app.
  2. Go to iCloud Drive → Mangra.
  3. Long-press the folder (or a specific manga).
  4. Select Keep Downloaded.

All pages will be available offline with no per-page download delay.

13. Settings Overview

  • Preferences — translation mode (Local / AI), AI model, source and target languages.
  • OCR — Standard or Accurate engine, Japanese Processor (furigana removal), OCR Mode (Manga / Comic).
  • Text Display — font picker (supports custom fonts installed via iFont / AnyFont), Remove Original Text, AI Enhance Image.
  • Browser — Smart Translate, Popup Blocking, Redirect Blocking.
  • Extensions — manage installed sources.
  • Document Directory — On My iPhone or iCloud Drive.
  • Shortcuts — integration guide.
  • Support — Help, Bug Report, Feedback, Contact, Send Logs, Review, Privacy Policy, Terms.

14. Reporting a Bug or Crash — Send Logs

If the app crashes or you run into a bug that’s hard to describe, the fastest way to get help is to send us your logs:

  1. Go to Settings → Support.
  2. Tap Send Logs.
  3. The app will attach an encrypted log file to a new email addressed to the developer.
  4. Add a short description of what happened and send.

The log file contains only technical diagnostic information (no personal reading data), is encrypted before leaving your device, and can only be opened by the developer. This is by far the fastest way to help us fix your issue.

15. Troubleshooting

  • OCR returns no text — make sure Live Text is enabled in iOS Settings → General → Language & Region → Live Text, then fully close and reopen the app. Or switch to the Accurate OCR engine in Settings.
  • Japanese text has small characters mixed in — enable the Japanese Processor in Settings → OCR to automatically strip furigana.
  • My font isn’t in the picker — install it through a font installer app like iFont or AnyFont; once the profile is installed in iOS Settings, the font will appear automatically.
  • Archive won’t open — check for nested archives (a ZIP inside a ZIP). Extract the inner archives first.
  • Smart Translate shows “Scanning…” — the current website isn’t in the supported list; translation will still work, just slower.
  • iCloud lag — mark the Mangra folder as “Keep Downloaded” in the Files app.
  • Still stuck, or hit a crash? — use Settings → Support → Send Logs so we can diagnose quickly (see section 14).
