Welcome to Manga Translate, your go-to manga reader and translation app available on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. To help you get the best experience from our app, here’s a complete guide on how to use the features and troubleshoot common issues.
1. Supported File Formats
Manga Translate supports the following file formats:
- PDF – No additional steps are required for PDF files. Simply import and read.
- ZIP, RAR, CBZ, CBR – These formats are supported, but there are specific guidelines to follow when preparing these files.
Importing Non-PDF Formats (ZIP, RAR, CBZ, CBR)
For these formats, the app requires the images in the archive to be arranged in a specific way. Regardless of the method used (single folder or multiple chapters in subfolders), the app will join all images into one folder and rename them sequentially from 001 to the last image.
Two Ways to Organize Files Before Importing:
1. All Images in One Folder (Single Chapter or Standalone Files)
If you’re dealing with a single chapter or a collection of images that don’t need to be separated by subfolders, place all the images directly into a single folder before converting it into a ZIP, RAR, CBZ, or CBR format.
Example of Correct Format (All images in one folder):

2. Multiple Chapters in Separate Folders (For Multi-Chapter Manga)
If you’re dealing with multiple chapters and want to organize them by chapter, you can create separate folders for each chapter inside the main folder. Each chapter should have its own subfolder with the images arranged in the correct order.
Example of Correct Format (multiple chapters in separate folders):
What Happens After Import:
- The app will extract all images from the folder, even if there are subfolders, and rename all images sequentially, starting from 001.jpg to the last image.
- This ensures that all pages are merged into one continuous sequence for easy reading.
Example of Incorrect Format (Nested Archives):
Your Manga Folder
├── 01.cbz
├── 02.cbz
├── 03.cbz
└── ...
The app cannot open files that contain multiple nested archives (ZIP, RAR, CBZ, or CBR). Please ensure that no compressed files are placed inside another compressed file.
2. Importing Files
There are two ways to import your files into Manga Translate:
- Inside the app: Tap the
button in the app’s interface to browse and import your files.
- Using the iOS “Share” feature: You can import files directly from other apps like Files, Safari, or any app that supports file sharing by using the “Share” button and selecting Manga Translate.
3. Save Progress
Manga Translate will automatically save your reading progress in the following situations:
- When you return to the Home Page.
- When you switch to another app or send the app to the background.
- When you close the app.
This ensures that when you return, you can easily pick up where you left off without losing your place in the manga.
4. Translation Feature
Manga Translate allows you to translate manga from one language to another. Here’s how it works:
- Step 1: Before translating, select the source language (the language the manga is in) and the target language (the language you want it translated into).
- Step 2: Tap on the Translate button (
) to initiate the translation.
Translation Modes
- Local (Apple Translate on-device): Uses Apple’s on-device translation feature, which works offline and is recommended for quicker translations.
- Cloud (AI Cloud Translation): Uses cloud-based AI translation, which provides more accurate results but requires an internet connection.
Finding Translated Images
After the translation process is complete, the translated images will be saved in a Translated folder for each manga. You can find these translated images as follows:
- If you store the document locally (On My iPhone):
- Go to Manga Translate folder > Index > [Your Manga] > Translated folder.
- If you store the document in the Cloud (iCloud Drive):
- The same structure applies: Manga Translate folder > Index > [Your Manga] > Translated folder.
5. Document Directory Management
You can choose where to store your manga files:
- Local Document (On My iPhone): Files are stored directly on your device for fast access.
- Cloud Drive Document: Files are stored in iCloud Drive. This may require the app to download each page as you view it, which can cause lag.
Tip: Enhance Performance on iCloud Drive
For optimal performance when using iCloud Drive, it is recommended that you make your manga files available for offline use. Follow these steps:
- Open the Files app on your device.
- Navigate to the Manga Translate folder within iCloud Drive.
- Tap and hold the Manga Translate folder or the specific manga folder you want to keep offline.
- Select Keep Downloaded.
This ensures that all your manga files are stored locally on your device, allowing for faster access without the need to download each page individually, which can cause lag.
6. Settings
Document Directory
In the Settings menu under Document Directory, you can switch between Local Document (On My iPhone) or iCloud Drive Document to specify where your files are stored.
Translation
In the Settings > Translation menu, you can choose between Local (on-device) translation or Cloud (AI cloud-based) translation depending on your preference.
